SLAGA Board Meeting
October 5, 2015 - 6:00pm
Called to order: 6:11pm

The September 14, 2015 Board Meeting Minutes were read. A motion to approve the September 14, 2015 SLAGA Board Meeting Minutes was made by Tony Colter and seconded by Wendy Neal with corrections from Tony Colter. The Board unanimously approved the minutes.
Treasurer’s report from September 2015 was read. Change membership coins to Milestones. A motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report was made by Pete Shaw and seconded by Tony Colter. The Board unanimously approved the minutes.

Bling Power Run – no new information. It will probably be postponed until spring.

Treasurer’s Report from August 2015 was read. A motion to approve the Treasurer’s Reports was made by Tony Colter and seconded by Kathy DeWitt. The Board unanimously approved the August 2015 Treasurer’s Reports.
- SLAGA Brochures – Pete Shaw said he is almost finished with the brochure.
- Road Trip –
- Bling Power Run – no report or date chosen.

- Decatur – Four attended: Quailman 2, Excagirl, and 2_cats. They found over 200 caches in 2 days.

- Elections - Same board members have been elected – it was a close election for Secretary.
- 12 Days of Cachemas – Pete Shaw will distribute information and publication date to volunteers placing the caches.
- SLAGA Coin – Tony Colter doesn’t have full design yet. He is hoping the coin will be ready for the Winter Pot luck.
- Milestones – Pete will buy chair for 10,000 milestone award. Kathy will order coins & pins. Twenty-two members will receive milestone awards at the Fall picnic.
- Two members are getting close to their 25,000 milestone. Decisions and awards will be made at the next meeting.
New Business
- O’Fallon Parks and Rec are placing caches their own caches. Pete Shaw will contact them on behalf of SLAGA.
- Geocoin Fest 2016 –St. Louis will host the 2016 Geocoin Fest at the City Museum on October 15, 2016. Sarah Chisholm will be the host and contact person.
- Mega Event (500-700 people)
- SLAGA Sponsor – Pete Shaw motion we sponsor with $1000 cash and loan of $500 as startup money. Tony Colter second the motion. The Board unanimously approved.
- Sarah Chisholm has asked for this not to be made public until after the announcement on October 4th.
- Wendy Neal and Laura Million will be in charge of SLAGA table.
- Additional SLAGA coins – special colors for coin fest will be available for purchase.
- Pete Shaw recommended that SLAGA nominate one person a year for a lifetime membership or other recognition for members that go above and beyond for SLAGA. More will be discussion at a future meeting.

- Brochures – Pete Shaw brought rough draft of the SLAGA Brochure with him. He will have a draft for the board to look at and approve at the next meeting.
- SLAGA Road Trips
- Bling power run – Martha Koeller will lead the Road Trip with the help of someone in North Carolina. No date or details have yet been announced.
- Jack Daniels - Kathy DeWitt will lead the Road Trip to Kentucky with a tentative date in November.
- Peoria – is on hold until probably Spring. No one has stepped forward to organize this trip and the fall calendar is booked for most people.
- Float trip - Sept 19 Float Trip will be organized by Ozark Sweetheart.
- Decatur - Road Trip to Decatur is Aug 21-23 and lead by Laura Million. Major Boothroyd has scheduled a Breakfast event. The hotel we will be staying at is the Welcome Hotel and Suites, north of Decatur. Laura will send out another email blast at the end of the week.

TheMadChef is ready to go with his portion of the day. John Elfrank asked SLAGA for prize donations for Cemetery Hop winners. Pete Shaw motioned to donate $100 for John Elfrank to divide among the winners. Tony Colter second the motion. All approved unanimously. - Christmas Party
Pete Shaw will contact RockSusan for her contacts at Shamrock’s in St. Peters. Date is to be determined but it was discussed the time be in the afternoon rather than the evenings. Last year, the Christmas part was held from 4-7pm and members likeit. Kirkwood Station Resturant will be a backup location if Shamrock’s doesn’t work out. - New Year’s Day Hike – Robertsville State Park – Janurary 1, 2016.

- Puzzle Class – Laura Million (2_cats) will plan this class for new geocachers. The puzzles will include simple solutions but not give away any actual cache coordinates.

The ballots are out. Steve Bromley will count votes after the voting deadline of August 31st. The new board will be announced at the Fall picnic. - 12 days of Cachemas
Pete Shaw will email people that volunteered to place caches. He will give each the day and time their cache to be published & clue for bonus. Each cache will contain an ornament for the F2F. - Taxes

Tony has had no inspiration. He will aim for Christmas release of the coin. If not Christmas, the new coin will be available for the New Year’s Day hike. - PA System
Dave and Kathy DeWitt returned the old battery back and received a new one. They will determine if the PA System is not charging the battery properly or if the battery was bad. - Chairs for 10,000 Cache Milestone
Pete Shaw and Wendy Neal did not buy new ones because the prices went back up to the original price. They will watch the sales and purchase a few more when the chairs go back on sale.

SLAGA was asked to demonstrate Geocaching at the WOW event on September 12. This is the same day as the SLAGA/SIGA Picnic. There will not be any one available to attend.

- Taxes -year end files – FY ends June 30th. Federal taxes require just mailing of an e-postcard. The Missouri taxes need more information. Kathy DeWitt and Wendy Neal will get together about the Missouri Taxes and file it in a few weeks.

SLAGA Road Trips:
Decatur, IL: Laura will look into planning a Road Trip to Decatur IL over Labor Day weekend.
She is considering starting with the CRTMH (Country Roads, Take Me Home) Series.
North Carolina: Martha Koleler, Gone2theDogs, has expressed interest in doing a power trail in North Carolina. A date is yet to be announced.
Float Trip: Pete Shaw has not had the opportunity to place new caches along the Courtois Creek due to the weather. After he places the new caches, he will announce a date for a float trip.
Newsletter/email-blast:
Deadline for Newsletter articles is June 29 so that the newsletter can be released by July 6th. (The Summer picnic is July 12th). Included in the newsletter will be:

SLAGA Spring Picnic:
The Spring picnic was a success in spite of the rain. The trailer needs to be re-stocked before the next picnic with BBQ brush, squirt bottle, napkins, PA system, raffle ticket jars. Kathy and Pete will purchase the needed items and check on the trailer prior to the Summer picnic.
The Board discussed a change in raffle drawings. It was suggested that attendees might buy more raffle tickets if they do not need to be present to win. Attendees will provide contact information on the back of the ticket and will be contacted by a SLAGA board member if they are not present when the ticket is drawn. The Board agreed to try this at the fall picnic.
Geocaching 101 and 201 classes:
The Geocaching 101 and 201 classes were held on May 30th . There is no report from the presenter.

Summer Picnic - Willoughby Heritage Farms, July 12:
SLAGA will provide paper goods, charcoal, and some extra tables. Members are asked to bring their own food or a dish to share and extra chairs. Pete Shaw and Kathy DeWitt will do inventory of trailer. Some paper goods were damaged in rain at the spring picnic. Wendy will bring water and ice. The picnic is scheduled for Sunday, July 12th from 1:30pm – 4:30pm.
Fall Picnic – Cuiver River State Park, - October 10:
Nothing new to report on the fall picnic.
Halloween Events - October 24:
John Elfrank request pavilion at the Kirkwood Park for all day. Kathy DeWitt has reserved the pavilion for 8am – 10:30pm.
Cemetery Hop: by John Elfrank, more details to follow.
Halloween Bash: Mike Maryan (TheMadChef), more details to follow.
Classes:
Wherigo classes have not been re-scheduled.
Publishing Caches class will be offered sometime in fall. Tony Colter will check his schedule and report back with a date.
GSAK – 201 class is almost ready but no date has been scheduled.

Scout page is published. Laura will update with more information and post the PDF flyer for Boy and Girl Scout Geocaching Badge sessions.
Elections:
An email blast for Nominations will be sent with alink to the nominations form on the SLAGA webpage. This will also be included in the next newsletter.
Business Cards:
The new SLAGA business cards were handed out to the board members. We are encouraged to hand them out to other members to put into caches. This is an inexpensive way to advertise SLAGA to the Geocaching community, especially to new cachers in our community.
12 days of Cachemas:
Pete Shaw will send email to potential cache placers for this event. More will be discussed later this fall.
Missouri Association for Health, PE and Rec Dept.:
No further contact or developments on this event.
New Business
Winter Pot Luck:
Rich Sheffold (RGS) has been in contact with STL County about the new Visitors Center. He will visit the new community center and advise the Board about its use for the SLAGA Winter Pot Luck.
Grill:
Dave and Kathy DeWitt found a grill from Walmart that they proposed that SLAGA purchases. This grill would be used at picnics and other events where grills are not available or are too small for a group the size of SLAGA. The grill sells for about $400. The Board will further discuss this at a future meeting.
