The April 4, 2016 Board Meeting minutes were read. A motion to approve the April 4, 2016 SLAGA Board Meeting Minutes was made by Tony Colter and seconded by Wendy Neal. The Board unanimously approved the Minutes.

Treasurer’s report from March 2016 was read. A motion to approve the March Treasurer’s Report was made by Pete Shaw and seconded by Tony Colter. The Board unanimously approved the Treasurer’s report.

Treasurer’s report from April 2016 was read. Change “Website name” to “Domain Name.” A motion to approve the April Treasurer’s Report was made by Tony Colter and seconded by Pete Shaw. The Board approved the Treasurer’s report.

New Business

  • St. Louis Count Park 100 year anniversary – on hold for now. Kathy DeWitt will check on details and report at another Board meeting
  • Geotrail – A discussion was held about SLAGA creating a GeoTrail. Lewis & Clark was suggested as a subject. Wendy Neal will check with the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Hartford IL about a possible start location. Dave DeWitt will check on the rules and policies for Geotrails.
  • It was brought up that some organizations are giving geo coins for Fizzy and other challenges. After a discussion, the board decided that there are too many people that have completed challenges to be cost effective.
  • Laura will send a sympathy card to Team DLADL on the death of David’s wife.
  • Laura will send a sympathy card to Charlotte Scheffold on the death of her sister.
  • Tech corner – Dave DeWitt announced that the old domain name of geostl.com is up for renewal and asked if SLAGA should renew old domain name or let it expire. The board agreed that we should extend it for another year because some other websites may be linking to the old URL rather than the current one and we don’t want them to have a broken link.
  • Updating software for Joomla – Dave DeWitt will check on pricing to upgrade the software for Joomla. Wendy Neal motioned that Dave DeWitt can spend up to $200 to upgrade software. Tony Colter seconded the motion. The Board unanimously approved the motion.
  • A recently married member with a lifetime individual membership asked how his new wife could be added to a lifetime family membership. After a discussion, the board agreed that membership can upgrade from Individual Lifetime to Family Lifetime with the increase of the difference of $50. This will only be for Lifetime memberships and not yearly memberships.

February Minutes: The February 1, 2016 Board Meeting Minutes were read. Pete Shaw stated to change St. Louis County to St. Charles County for the Park Camp event this summer. A motion to approve the February 1, 2016 Board Meeting Minutes with suggested changes was made by Pete Shaw and seconded by Laura Million. The Board unanimously approved the minutes.

Treasurer’s report: Treasurer’s report from February 2016 was read. A motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report was made by Laura Million and second by Pete Shaw. The Board unanimously approved the Treasurer’s report.

                Shaw Park – big corporate pavilion costs $500 to rent. The two smaller pavilions $200 each total $400. After a short discussion, the board decided to look at another park. SLAGA usually does not spend that much for meet and greet summer picnics. Other park recommended were Forest Park, Tower Grove, Lewis & Clark Confluence in IL, Arnold City Park, Pere Marquette.

CITO – September 17-25, 2016. No new information.

Fall Picnic 2016 – Possible location will be Robertville State Park. No update on the Fall picnic.

Geocoinfest – October 15, 2016, no new information.

Halloween Event 2016, no new information.

  • Classes:
    • Geocaching 101 – SLAGA had a request for class in Belleville area – Kathy will have the requester look for sites.
    • GSAK 201 – Will check for dates and times again for the fall.
    • Publishing – Tony will check in April for a date. Kathy will check with South Grand Library for a location.
    • St. Charles County Camps – Pete will pick the dates and will send word out on Facebook for help.
    • Boy Scouts – SLAGA was contacted for stuff for goody bags. We don’t have anything at this time.

    • GSAK 201 – Pete reported that the room was too small for the crowd. GSAK booklets were available at the Winter Potluck and they went quickly. A digital copy will be made available on the SLAGA web page.
  • Deafest – The board discussed the $300 payment for the booth and decided that it was too much to spend if we are not selling anything. Tony will send an email asking if we can have a space for free to hand out brochures.

New Business

  • PayPal’s Automatic Dues Renewal - A discussion was held about discontinuing the PayPal’s Automatic Payment for dues renewal. Wendy Neal made the motion to discontinue the automatic payment option. Tony Colter seconded the motion. The Board unanimously approved.
  • St. Charles County Park Camps – SLAGA was asked to teach geocaching as several day camps this summer for kids 8 – 14 years old. Some are full day camps and some are half day camps in June. Pete will follow up on this.
  • Road trips – Kathy will get details for the Jack Daniels tour. Laura will plan a MOGA 15 Pyramid trip.
  • Classes – Tony stated that he has had interest in another Publishing course. Date to be determined.

  • Brochures:
    Kathy DeWitt mentioned that Pete Shaw asked for pictures to include in the brochure.
  • Newsletter/email-blast:
    • New Day Hike – Kathy DeWitt announced that she will be out of town and asked Tony Colter to create the Cache pages for the Breakfast and Hike. Laura Million stated that she will be out as of Friday with Knee replacement surgery, so that if the cache page does not get published before Friday, someone else will have to send the email blast.
    • Winter Pot Luck – Michael Rogers is hosting the Winter Pot-luck and joined us for this meeting. He stated that he would like a statement in the email blasts that dogs are not allowed in the County Park buildings.
    • Newsletter – Laura would like all materials for the SLAGA Winter Newsletter by January 18, 2016 so that she can publish the Newsletter January 25, 2016.
  • Upcoming events:
    • SLAGA Christmas party – Shamrock December 12 – Everything is getting in place for the Christmas party. Tony Colter reported that the SLAGA Christmas coins are delayed, but will be shipped directly to him, hopefully in time for the Christmas party.
    • New Year’s Day breakfast – Kathy DeWitt will not be able to attend the New Year’s Day Breakfast or hike. Tony Colter will create Cache page.
    • New Year’s Day hike – Robertsville State Park January 1, 2016 – Tony Colter will create Cache page.
    • Winter Pot-Luck – January 30, 2016 at The Pavilion at Lemay (305 Gregg Road) - Premium member prizes from Fall Picnic will be handed out at the Pot-Luck. Michael Rogers reported that people volunteering for positions. He reports that there is public wifi available in the new building. He needs people to help set up and break down. Kathy DeWitt mentioned that many people stay to help clean up. He needs new caches to be placed. Wendy Neal said that she will look into placing a puzzle cache. We would also like a group photo, geo bingo, kids games, and a raffle. Michael noted that not many people signed up to provide a meat dish. Laura Million will include that in the next email blast.
    • Leap Day – Monday, Feb 29, 2016 – Tony Colter showed the design for the SLAGA custom coin. Coin will be $10 cash or check and $11 by pay pal. No locations have been confirmed. Dave DeWitt will check with Schafly’s Tap Room.
    • PI Day – Monday, March 14, 2016 – It was discussed and decided not to offer a custom coin this year. The “Key Lime” pie can be ordered on line. Locations for this event will be discussed at a later board meeting.
    • CITO – April 16-24, 2016 – Korrian will sponsor one of the spring CITO events. SLAGA will provide water and a CITO coin for each event as we did last year.
    • Spring Picnic – Date to be determined. Korrian is working on it getting a pavilion at one of the St. Louis County parks.
    • Summer Picnic 2016 – No volunteers to host the event yet. The board will discuss this at a future meeting.
    • CITO – September 17-25, 2016 - No volunteers to host these events yet. The board will discuss this at a future meeting.

  • SLAGA coin – Tony Colter showed the initial design for the new SLAGA geocoin. It is a silver flur-de-lis shaped. His aim is to have them ready for purchase at the Spring picnic.
  • Milestones – Pete Shaw reported to Kathy DeWitt that there have been very few milestone submission. Laura will send a reminder email blast and add it to the Winter Pot-Luck email blast.

Treasurer’s report from October 2015 was read. A discussion was held about the treasurer’s report listing only debits and credits that had cleared the bank and not pending transactions. Kathy DeWitt will discuss this with Wendy Neal. A motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report was made by Tony Colter and seconded by Pete Shaw. The Board unanimously approved the minutes.

Old Business

  • SLAGA Brochures – Being proofed by Pete Shaw
  • SLAGA Road Trips – Nothing on the schedule until spring.
  • Newsletter/email-blast
    • Film Festival – Tony Colter has a coin available for $10. The coins will be available at the event.
    • Christmas party – the email blast will go out when the cache page is published.
  • Past events
    • Fall Picnic - Trailer was inventoried. John Elfrank was reimbursed for the tire and repairs to the trailer. It was discussed that the announcements during meal while everyone is there worked out well and should be continued at future events. The group photo of milestone recipients was a good idea and should be continued at future events. In addition to a group photo, it was suggested that individual photos be taken of each milestone recipient and given to them as a perk. New caches bring people out to these events and should always be included in events. Some discussion was held about creating new games, promote new t-shirts sales, and other ideas for future events.
    • Halloween Event – The Halloween event went well. There should be a better push for the costume contest and pumpkin carving. Not as many participants as previous years. Kathy will check with Korriaan about Creve Coeur Park for next year. The board will consider making The Halloween Bash an official SLAGA event. Kathy will also ask John Elfrank to make Graveyard Hop an official SLAGA event.
  • Upcoming events
    • Christmas party – Shamrock’s in St. Peters on December 12 – cache page to be published this week.
    • New Year’s Day breakfast – Kathy will call Denny’s in Eureka – Scheduled for 8am on January 1, 2016.
    • New Year’s Day hike – Robertsville State Park, scheduled for 10am, January 1, 2016.
    • Winter Pot luck and Cabin Fever event – January 30, 2016 - The Pavilion at Lemay (305 Gregg Road) – The event published – Michael Rogers is the host. He needs cache hiders. Kathy will contact Jim Greene and Korriaan about location of existing caches and placing new ones.
    • PI day – March 14, 2016. Since Pi day is during the week, multiple events will be scheduled throughout SLAGA area. A group coin may be available like last year.
    • CITO – April 16-24, 2016. A possible location will be a St. Louis County Park.
    • Spring Picnic 2016 – Date to be determined. Korriaan will host it. She will pick a park and take care of registering the pavilion.
    • Summer Picnic 2016 – No updates.
    • CITO – September 17-25, 2016 – No updates.
    • Fall Picnic 2016 – No updates.
    • GeocoinFest – October 15, 2016 – no new details.
    • Halloween Bash 2016 – possibly to be held at Creve Coeur Park. No updates.
  • Classes
    • GSAK 201 in January, getting dates set with Jason Collier. Possible location will be the Library on South Grand in St. Louis.
  • 12 days of Cachemas
    • Everyone is getting placement emails. No new details.
  • SLAGA coin – Tony Colter has the initial drawings and will hopefully have the coin by the Winter Potluck.
  • Milestones
    • Kathy will check on catalogs for 25,000 milestone awards. We have several members approaching that milestone.
  • Inventory
    • Inventory taken at fall picnic by Laura Million

New Business

  • Website – The website domain name is $15.99 and will be paid when that comes due. The subscription portion, CB Subs, will pay for in the future. Dave will look at updates for the calendar feature.
