SLAGA Board MeetingApril 4, 2016

Call to order 7:09pm

Attendance: Kathy DeWitt, Pete Shaw, Tony Colter, Wendy Neal, Laura Million, Dave DeWitt

The March 3, 2016 Board Meeting minutes were read. A motion to approve the March 3, 2016 SLAGA Board Meeting Minutes was make by Tony Colter and seconded by Pete Shaw. The Board unanimously approved the Minutes.

The March Treasurers’ Report will be tabled until next month.

Old Business

  • Brochure – Pete Shaw reports that the SLAGA brochure is coming along.
  • Newsletter –
    • The Spring newsletter will be coming out on May 2nd. Laura needs all articles by April 25th.
    • Pete Shaw will report on MOGA award results by SLAGA members.
    • Kathy DeWitt will write the “Letter from the President.”
    • Laura Million will write about the OK Road Trip.
    • Laura Million will write about Upcoming events.
    • Pete Shaw will write about the Spring Picnic.
    • Wendy Neal will provide pictures from the CITO events.
  • Past Events
    • Pi Day – went well and was well attended. Wendy Neal noted that Eckert’s likes our group and would like us to return. She would also like to place a cache at Eckert’s.
  • Upcoming Events
    • CITO
      • 4-16-16: Imperial Pet Cemetery 10am - 12:30pm
      • 4-16-16: St. Charles Frontier Park - 12:45pm - 4pm
      • 4-17-16: Lower Meramec 1pm - 3pm
      • Dave DeWitt will try to get one in Illinois For April 23 or 24
      • Wendy Neal will order 10 coins to give away at each SLAGA sponsored event.
  • Spring Picnic – May 7, 2016 at Clydesdale Park – Laura MacLeod, Korriaan, will host. She has nothing new to report.

SLAGA will provide the following prizes:

  • Raffle give aways – Kathy DeWitt will order bison tubes to give away.
  • Bingo Game – 3-$10 gift certificates.
  • Ammo can toss – 2 ammo cans for prizes; one for men’s competition and one for women’s competition.
  • Closest to Pin - $10 gift card
  • McDonald's gift certificate for kids games
  • Nested ammo can - $10 gift certificate
  • TB tags – Wendy Neal will order 10 travel bug tags to sell at the picnic.
  • Dave DeWitt will order a couple of Geocaching books for raffle.
  • Premium Members attendance prices 3-$25 certificates
  • Kathy DeWitt will check on the Nomination forms – (one year and two year elections) & Jar for the nominations.
  • Food – Kathy DeWitt will get food: hotdogs, brats, and hamburgers, based on attendance.
  • Pete Shaw will pick up ice and water.
  • Wendy Neal will pick up buns based on the number of hotdogs, brats, and hamburgers.
  • Kathy DeWitt and Pete Shaw will inventory truck and make purchases as necessary.
  • Summer Picnic – July 16, 2016 will be held at Arnold City Park.
    • Pete Shaw reports that the park is open and will look at pavilion.
  • CITO – Sept 17-25 – No new information
  • Fall Picnic – Tony will get a date and reserve the pavilion.
  • GCF – Oct 15 – No new news
  • Halloween Event – will be held at Creve Coeur Lake along with the Grave Yard Hop.
  • Classes
    • Geocaching 101 – May 21, 2016 – St. Louis County Library: Grants View Branch. More information to be announced.
    • GSAK 101 – will not be held for a while
    • GSAK 201 – will not be held for a while
    • Publishing – Dave DeWitt will call for a location. Tony Colter will select the date for event.
    • St. Charles County camp – Pete Shaw will contact the organizer and will report back.
    • Boy Scout – No new requests for Merit Badge.
  • SLAGA coin
    • Christmas coin – enough have been sold so SLAGA is close to break even on cost. No new coins sold and can be sold at Geocoinfest.
    • Leap Day – Kathy DeWitt reports that she possibly has one one left. It will be put on raffle table at the Spring picnic.
    • SLAGA Coin - no inspiration, no new information.
    • Path Tag account – there is money in our Path Tag Account. Kathy DeWitt will check on it.
  • Road trips
    • Oklahoma June 2 – 6, 2016 – nothing new. Laura Million will send another email blast announcing it.
    • Jack Daniels Geotrail – nothing new to report.

New Business

  • St. Louis Count Park 100 year anniversary – on hold for now. Kathy DeWitt will check on details and report at another Board meeting
  • Geotrail – A discussion was held about SLAGA creating a GeoTrail. Lewis & Clark was suggested as a subject. Wendy Neal will check with the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Hartford IL about a possible start location. Dave DeWitt will check on the rules and policies for Geotrails.
  • It was brought up that some organizations are giving geo coins for Fizzy and other challenges. After a discussion, the board decided that there are too many people that have completed challenges to be cost effective.
  • Laura will send a sympathy card to Team DLADL on the death of David’s wife.
  • Laura will send a sympathy card to Charlotte Scheffold on the death of her sister.
  • Tech corner – Dave DeWitt announced that the old domain name of geostl.com is up for renewal and asked if SLAGA should renew old domain name or let it expire. The board agreed that we should extend it for another year because some other websites may be linking to the old URL rather than the current one and we don’t want them to have a broken link.
  • Updating software for Joomla – Dave DeWitt will check on pricing to upgrade the software for Joomla. Wendy Neal motioned that Dave DeWitt can spend up to $200 to upgrade software. Tony Colter seconded the motion. The Board unanimously approved the motion.
  • A recently married member with a lifetime individual membership asked how his new wife could be added to a lifetime family membership. After a discussion, the board agreed that membership can upgrade from Individual Lifetime to Family Lifetime with the increase of the difference of $50. This will only be for Lifetime memberships and not yearly memberships.
