SLAGA BOARD MEETING
August 11, 2016

The July 2016 Board Meeting Minutes were read. A motion to approve the July 2016 SLAGA Board Meeting Minutes was made by Tony Colter and seconded Pete Shaw by. Board unanimously approved the minutes.
The final Treasurer’s Report from June 2016 was read. A motion to approve the Final June 2016 Treasurer’s Reports was made by Laura Million and seconded by Pete Shaw. The Board approved the Final June 2016 Treasurer’s Reports. The July 2016 Treasurer’s Report was read. A motion to approve the July 2016 Treasurer’s Reports was made by Laura Million and seconded by Tony Colter. The Board approved the July 2016 Treasurer’s Report.
Old Business
- Brochures: Kathy DeWitt has been combining text from several SLAGA brochures and from one on Geocaching.com. She will have a draft by the next meeting.
- Newsletter/email-blast:
- Milestones – an email blast will be sent out on August 12th and again on August 18th.
- Voting Reminder – an email blast will be sent out on August 19th and again on August 29th. Deadline to vote is August 31st.
- Fall Picnic – an email blast will go out on September 6th and again on September 19th for the September 24th SLAGA Fall Picnic.
- Newsletter – Laura requests the articles by September 9th and the newsletter will go out on September 16th.

- Summer Picnic – Pete Shaw remarked on the nice venue.
- Upcoming events:
- CITO – September 17th-25th – talked to Laura McLeod about McDonnell Park. She said that the park is in good condition.
- Fall Picnic – September 24th, 2016 – McDonnell Park, Lindberg Shelter
- GCF – October 22nd – Laura Million will head up the SLAGA table. Kathy DeWitt will send Laura a schedule of events. It is estimated that 2-3 people working 2 hour shifts should cover it.
- Halloween event 2016: October 22nd – Lawson Park in Webster Groves, needs a new host due to family commitment of current host. Laura Million mentioned that this was the same day as Cache Slash Fest in southern Illinois.
- Graveyard Hop – Wendy Neal will contact Scott Griffin about hosting the Graveyard Hop.
- Classes – Canoe and Kayak: Pete Shaw was asked to teach a class on Canoeing and Kayaking. He said that he would need a full day for each. He will ask membership interest in either kayaking or canoeing and offer the class in spring 2017.
- SLAGA coin:
SLAGA coin – Tony Colter is hoping that the coin will be ready by Geocoinfest.
Pathtags – the path tags will be ordered when the SLAGA coin design is complete
- Road trips: Kathy DeWitt announces that the Jack Daniels GeoTrail Road Trip is going to have to be November. She has not set a date yet.
- Boonslick Geotrail: Mark Coppersmith reports that the trail is coming along. Tony Colter will reach out to Mark about the coin design.
- Joomla: Dave DeWitt has updated the software for the website.
- Nominations: Ballots have gone out. An email blast will be sent out on August 19th and again on August 29th. Deadline to vote is August 31st.
- New Year’s Day Hike – Pete Shaw contacted Robertsville State Park and arranged for the pavilions for January 1, 2017 for no charge. SLAGA paid for the pavilions for last January, but due to the flooding, we were not able to hold the event. Pete noted that someone will have to contact Robertsville State Park in November to officially hold the Pavilion because they do not start taking reservations for next year until November.
New Business
- Taxes due 8/31/16 – Kathy DeWitt and Dave DeWitt filed the state and federal paperwork for SLAGA.
- WOW – October 8, Forest Park. Three session of 1.5 hours each to teach geocaching. Shifts would be 9:30am – 11am, 12:30pm – 2pm, and 2:30pm – 4pm. Not enough SLAGA board members would be available so we decided not to participate in this event.
