SLAGA BOARD MEETING

June 9, 2016

6:00 PM St. Louis Bread Co.

Called to order: 6:15pm

Attendance: Kathy DeWitt, Tony Colter, Pete Shaw, Wendy Neal, Laura Million, and Dave DeWitt

Guests: John Elfrank, Patricia Hutchison, Mark Coppersmith, Mike Neal

The May 2, 2016 Board Meeting minutes were read. A motion to approve the May 2, 2016 SLAGA Board Meeting Minutes was made by Pete Shaw and seconded by Tony Colter. The Board unanimously approved the Minutes.

Treasurer’s report from May 2016 was read. A motion to approve the May Treasurer’s Report was made by Tony Colter and seconded by Pete Shaw. The Board unanimously approved the Treasurer’s report.

Old Business

  • Brochures: Kathy/Dave will finish
  • Newsletter/email-blast:
    • Summer Newsletter – we will wait until fall for next one
    • Fall picnic for “Save the Date” July Blast
    • Nomination blast – will go out tomorrow
  • Past events-recap:
    • Spring Picnic May 7, 2016 Clydesdale park: Good picnic, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
  • Upcoming events:
    • Summer Picnic July 16 2016, Arnold City Park: GC page is published. Email blast to go out soon.
    • CITO, September 17-25, 2016: need to find people to host. This will be talked about at a future meeting.
    • Fall Picnic, September 17, 2016: McDonnell Park-Lindbergh Shelter – Blue Daisy will co-host with SWAseeker. Shelter is paid for.
    • GCF, October 15, 2016: No new information
  • Halloween event: We are looking St Charles or Kirkwood. Kathy will call Kirkwood. If we can’t get October 22nd, then we will consider October 29th.
  • Classes-recap:
    • Geocaching 101, May 21, 201, St. Louis County Library - Grants Glaze Branch Big Bend: Pete Shaw reported about 40 people.
    • Publishing, May 21, 2016, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Carpenter Branch Library in Tower Grove: Tony Colter reported everything went OK. There were a lot of new cachers, about 30 people in all.
  • Classes:
    • St. Charles County Camp, June 14 and June 22 – Pete Shaw will be teaching with help from volunteers
    • Girl Scout, June 25th – Laura will be teaching a group of Girl Scout.
  • SLAGA coin:
    • SLAGA coin – Tony added “XV” for SLAGA’s 15th anniversary.
    • Pathtags – once we get coin design, we will match path tags design to coins.
  • Road trips:
    • Oklahoma Land Run, June 2-6. Four people attended, Nina Dean, Jackie Lamerick, Hunter Lamerick, and Laura Million – lots of bramble, PI, and cedar trees.
    • Jack Daniels Geotrail: Kathy DeWitt reports that it is going to have to be in November.
  • Geotrail-Lewis & Clark: Will be placed on hold while we talk about Boonslick Geotrail
  • Boonslick Geotrail:
    • Mark Coppersmith informed us that the Boonslick Road runs from St. Charles, MO to Franklin MO. It is a historic trail that runs about 150 miles. There are about 25 DAR markers where caches can be placed off set of the markers. The Board discussed creating commemorative coins for the first 100 finders. Mark Coppersmith has a design and will work on details of the coin.
    • Wendy make a motion that SLAGA gets involved with Boonslick Geotrail.
      • SLAGA will up front the cost of the coin
      • SLAGA will determine the fee charged for the coin for completed Geotrail
      • SLAGA will host the passport on SLAGA website
      • SLAGA will help with cost of the cache containers

Motion was second by Pete Shaw. The Board unanimously approved the motion.

  • Joomla: Dave DeWitt is watching for a sale.
  • Nominations: Kathy DeWitt reports that every Board position has a person nominated for it.

New Business

  • PayPal: It was mentioned that SLAGA should change of Treasurers name on account. Until the change of Treasurer’s name, we can’t put money from our bank account to PayPal. Membership money is still going in and we are able to removed money. Since the Wendy Neal will not be running for Treasurer this fall, the Board will wait for the new treasurer to change name on account.
  • Milestones: Rainman has passed his 25,000 milestone. Pete Shaw will meet with Rainman to discuss award options.
  • John Elfrank will pick up plates and charcoal when it is on sale.
    • The wheel broken on trailer. John Elfrank will fix it and send Wendy Neal the receipt.
  • Bellefountaine Cemetery has agreed to create 13 positions for caches. They will dig holes for irrigation covers and SLAGA will cover the cost of about $300 for the covers.
    • John Elfrank has “reserved” locations on GC.com for 13 caches. He is looking for volunteers to place caches. Several of the board members have agreed to place caches.
    • A motion was made by Pete Shaw to pay for covers, the cache placer will put “SLAGA” on cache page or be charged $22 for irrigation cover. The motion was second by Tony Colter. The Board unanimously approved the motion.
