Freelist Geocaching Newsgroup
SLAGA did not create this newsgroup, nor is it responsible for its maintenance and moderation. However, we link to it from our web page because we consider it a valuable resource. This newsgroup provides a way to subscribe, read and enter messages to an internet newsgroup. The newsgroup is created so that geocachers in the St. Louis area (or anyone else, for that matter) can communicate, discuss geocaching-related issues, stories, etc.
How to Subscribe
Use the form at the top of this page. Enter the email address where you would like new messages to be sent. This will be the same email address from which you will send message to the newsgroup. Select 'Subscribe' from the dropdown list and click the 'Submit' button. An email will automatically be sent to that email address notifying you of your subscription status.
How to Unsubscribe
Use the form at the top of this page. Enter the email address you initially used to subscribe. Select 'Unsubscribe' from the dropdown list and click the 'Submit' button. An email will automatically be sent to that email address notifying you of your subscription status.
Digest mode
Digest mode sends you a summary of emails sent to the newsgroup, instead of the body of the emails.
Vacation mode
Vacation mode allows you to remain subscribed to the list but not receive posts. Vacation mode is useful if you'll be away for some time or if you'd like to be subscribed so that you can post to the list but you don't want to receive posts (and you perhaps read them from the archives).
Posting a Message to the Group

Privacy
Never post your personal information, or that of someone else. This includes your full name, address, phone numbers, serial numbers, directions to your house, or when you are going to be on vacation What you post will not only be read by people subscribed to the newsgroup, but messages sent to the newsgroup are also published in the freelist newsgroup archives on the internet, which are easily read by anyone and indexed by search engines.
Netiquette
Do not post 'chain-emails' to the newsgroup.
Avoid using harsh or graphic language; be respectful of other list members.
Do not paste in long articles from web pages. Instead, include a link to the web page.
When replying to an email, it is suggested to trim off the old parts of the thread to keep the size of the reply small.
If the message you are sending is not related to geocaching, it is suggested that you prefix the subject with 'NGR' (not geocaching related). For instance, NGR: My dog ran away from home.
Replies like 'Me, too' or 'I agree' are not encouraged because they do not add content to the discussion.
Disciplinary Action
A blatant violation of a netiquette guideline will result in revocation of your ability to post messages to the newsgroup. After a probationary period, you may have your access returned (at the discretion of the 'freelist geocaching newsgroup' administrator). However, subsequent violations means your email address will be removed from all email access to the newsgroup (sending or receiving).
If you feel the need to report violations, send an email to the 'freelist geocaching newsgroup administrator. Do not post your complaint to the newsgroup. This usually aggravates the situation.
