Happy Perseid Showers -- Penguin Event
Description
Happy Perseid meteor showers everyone! The Perseid showers occur as Earth passes through the trail left by Comet Swift-Tuttle. The showers were first mentioned in 36 AD in a Chinese manuscript. But the comet itself was discovered in 1862 by Lewis Swift and Horace Parnell Tuttle. The showers are visible from mid July to late September, however this week should be the peak of activity when you could see roughly 1 shooting star per minute. Unfortunately there is also a full moon this week which could hinder the viewing, ( Should be noted this is just a reminder they will happen, this is not a viewing party for the actual showers. I thought of doing an event for that but not sure who would show up at midnight.).
The world is facing the most challenging era of our lives. We are all working to get through this unique time in our history. But it is time to return to some of the normal routine. As the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) situation is evolving rapidly around the world, Geocaching HQ urges all Event hosts and attendees to prioritize the safety of themselves and their attendees.
Anyone is welcome to attend! Events are a great way to meet fellow geocachers, learn about geocaching, and get involved in the geocaching community.
An outdoor event in the summer you ask... Yup. Will it be hot you ask... Yup. Am I crazy you ask... Maybe.
Event Caches take place at the posted coordinates. They last at least 30 minutes and are open to anyone. We will post the event for 1 hour, We will probably be there early and stay a bit later if things go as usual. But with the high temperature we likely will be there shorter than normal. (Bragging rights to whoever gets there first.)
Plan to share stories and photos of any caches you may have found lately. Found a new favorite? Gone on any trips? Anything planned for the future? Need a hint of a pesky puzzle?
There is plenty of parking near the area ( street parking and lots and a garage).
