SLAGA 2013 Holiday Party December 4

As fellow cachers... you're probably used to some of your friends and family making comments about how you're not quite right. In celebration of this fact and in celebration of the winter holidays... we SLAGA folks are going to gather together to eat and enjoy each other's company... and do something that is undoubtedly right for one night.
Two dates this year coincide with being the "right" sort of days. By this I mean that the numbers making up the day, month and year portions of the date... also describe the length of the sides of a right triangle. The first of these occured on May 12th (5-12-13) and the second one will occur on December 5th. And it would therefore be right to celebrate on Thursday, December 5th. But as noted... we aren't quite right.
So on Wednesday, December 4th from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. we will be gathering together at Golden Corral to do something right. We will be encouraging one another with holiday spirit and conversation while feeding ourselves (our stomachs will consider that right anyway).
This is also a great opportunity for us as cachers to discuss ways we can give back to the community that supports (puts up with?) our past time over this next year. If there's one thing a gathering of cachers is good at... it's thinking up with excuses to get back together some more for other reasons.
Please RSVP on the cache page, and keep your eyes on the SLAGA Facebook page and Freelist for more info as the event approaches.
Be good to our community and be good to each other. I hope to see you all there!

Team_State will host the 2013 SLAGA Fall Picnic at the Lewis and Clark State Historic Site!
The date is Saturday, September 14, 2013. Half an hour northeast of St. Louis across the Mississippi River, this historic site memorializes Camp Dubois, where pioneers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark camped during the winter of 1803 to 1804. Situated on the banks of Mississippi River, the site hosted the Corps of Discovery as they prepared for their expedition to the far reaches of the American West.
Madchef has offered to fix pork steaks, bratwurst and hotdogs. Bring your own drinks and a dish to share. Let us know what you'd like to share (salads, sides and desserts) when log a will attend. see GC4HD8R. Don't forget to volunteer to help.
Currently looks like there will be 25 caches within easy (or not so easy) walking distance.

‘It’s a High-Tech Treasure Hunt’

Susan Benedict, Washington, and her sons Alex, 13, and Matt, 10, didn’t mind the snow as they trekked through patches of it Sunday afternoon to check on a hidden treasure.
With them were friends Mike Willming, Washington, and his son, Mark, 11, who had created the hidden treasure, known as Bye Bye Birdie, back on Oct. 20.
The treasure is out in the open, if you know where to look and if you have the right equipment to narrow down the search area. All you need is a GPS device, or a special app on your Smartphone, said Benedict.
This is the world of geocaching. If you’re not familiar with it, geocaching is described as a “worldwide scavenger hunt” where people all over the world hide “caches” in random places, then post the GPS (longitude and latitude) coordinates of the location on the geocaching.com website along with a brief description and sometimes a few clues or codes to crack, so that others wanting to take on the challenge can go in search of it.
