
Beginner's Geocaching Workshop Offered in Ste. Genevieve, MO
This workshop is for those interested in learning about geocaching, and for businesses and tourist sites interested in having a geocache on their property. All classes will be taught by Frank Wideman, Natural Resources Engineer with the University of Missouri Extension. Participants will be going outside, so comfortable shoes and appropriate attire are recommended. Loaner GPS units will be available. The fee is $10 for the entire three-part series if paid in advance, or $10 per class paid at the door. Pre-registration is required by calling (573) 883-3548. The workshop includes three sessions:

Beginning GPS: Thursday, September 2, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Patke Room (big meeting room) at the Extension office. You don't need your own handheld GPS unit, loaners will be available.

Learning Geocaching: Tuesday, September 7, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Patke Room. Geocaching is a fun outdoor activity using GPS units to find objects hidden at secret locations.

Placing a Geocache: Thursday, September 9, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This class will be of particular interest to tourism sites and others interested in hosting a geocache on their property. The protocols and procedures will be reviewed, along with tips for making your geocache attractive to GPS enthusiasts.
Directions:
The Ste. Genevieve County Extension office is located in downtown Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. From Interstate 55, take the Highway 32 exit ("Farmington") and head East. After about five miles you'll come to a light, at Highway 61. Continue straight. The name of the road will become Center Drive, then Fourth Street. At the first stop sign, which is at the downtown square, turn right, onto Market Street. The Extension office is located one-and-a-half blocks down on the left, just past the Old Brick House Restaurant, in a one-story stone-and-wood building. Parking is available on the street or in the lot next to the church on the right side of Market Street.
