MEETING MINUTES 2020

Meeting called to order at 6:38 pm.
Motion called to approve August 2020 minutes by Michael, seconded by Steve.
Motion called to approve August 2020 treasurer's report by Melissa, seconded by Michael.
UPS Store for SLAGA post office box is now paid until February 15, 2022.
Events
- GC 101 class was this past Saturday September 12, 2020
- Bill Lange, Patricia Huchinson, and Melissa Pierce were the volunteers.
- Much smaller class than usual (family of five)
- Biggest issue was the batteries for the GPSr units dying during the course of the class.
- Batteries were determined to be approximately 5 years old, maybe older.
- May buy new rechargeable batteries.
- MOGA 2020 GC8F5PX is scheduled for October 10, 2020. John updated Steve as he was unable to attend tonight. .
- Visitor’s center is still closed at this time.
- Venue has been changed and is reflected on the MOGA listing.
- Adventure lab has also been moved
- Corp of Engineers is providing a tent for us to use at no charge.
- There are no concerns with insurance due to this change
- T-shirt orders need to close soon, as we need at least 2 weeks for processing.
- Will close on Sunday, September 20th, 2020 at 6 pm.
- Email to be sent on September 15th, 2020 by Melissa.
- Visitor’s center is still closed at this time.
- Fall Picnic Halloween Celebration Event GC8HKB0 October 31, 2020 9 am to 3 pm. Update given by host Patricia.
- 40 will attends are logged at this time.
- Working on ensuring we are compliant with the current St Louis County Health Department guidelines regarding COVID.
- SLAGA will be providing cake
- Cakes will be coming from The Cakery.
- There is a 3 business day full refund cancellation policy if we are unable to have the event.
- Three - one-quarter sheet cakes using the top 3 flavors requested
- SLAGA will pay $175 towards the cake
- We could get cheaper cakes, but not the same quality.
- At this time with lack of events and activities, feel we should have something a little nicer than usual.
- Motion called, approved by Carolyn, second by Michael
- Will serve the cake prepackaged between 10 am - 3 pm.
- Cakes will be coming from The Cakery.
- Attendees to bring their own food otherwise.
- Patricia has three - two packs of handmade Halloween cloth masks as door prizes
- New officers will be announced at 1 pm.
- Uncertain how many people will stick around for the announcement as we will not be having a meal.
- What events do we want to have available for people to participate in?
- Don’t want to keep people tied up at the event considering the current health situation.
- Do a costume contest utilizing online voting means? Have just 2 categories for adult and kids?
- Is there a safe way to hold our usual raffle?
- Skip GeoBingo this event
- Closest to pin and ammo can toss can be done with adequate precautions and disinfectant.
- Will have the usual gift cards, will purchase from Kathy DeWitt.
Ongoing Business
- Award Coins for milestones will be purchased from Geocaching.com
- Milestone achievements need to be submitted to Carolyn via website by September 30th, 2020.
- Will order by October 4th, 2020 in order to have them by the Fall Picnic October 31st, 2020.
- Carolyn will reach out in the next week to fill in the incoming Vice-President, Robert, on the process.
- Email for milestone submittals will be sent out this week.
- Milestone achievements need to be submitted to Carolyn via website by September 30th, 2020.
- 20th Anniversary geocoins.
- Our coins are being redone as the design submitted did not match what was received.
- Uncertain when we will get the coins delivered.
Other Business
- New officers to get together with the outgoing officers to get up to speed on job duties.
- Outgoing officers will be kept on the email list for one year for any issues.
- New officers have been added to the email lists.
- Laura MacLeod, St Louis County Park Ranger, joined this evening to discuss the upcoming managed deer hunts scheduled for November 2020.
- Managed bow hunts are scheduled for November 7 - 30, 2020 at four county parks:
- Greensfelder
- Creve Coeur
- Queeny
- Jefferson Barracks
- AREAS AND TRAILS ARE NOT BEING SHUT DOWN
- We will be sending out multiple emails to inform everyone.
- Michael will send out a notice on Facebook.
- Those people with caches in those areas may want to consider disabling their caches during that time period
- Others need to be aware in case they plan on caching in the area
- Managed bow hunts are scheduled for November 7 - 30, 2020 at four county parks:
New Business
- Zoom training classes with question and answer sessions
- Suggestion was made on Facebook by a SLAGA member to do some type of training class for new cachers to get help.
- Possibly do social online events also
- We will start with 2 monthly sessions to see what type of response we get from this.
- Use the first couple of sessions to gauge what type of training people are interested in.
- Try to recruit volunteers to put together classes
- A suggestion tonight was made to ask Jason to present on GSAK
- Possibly video record and put up for future viewing
