SLAGA BOARD MEETING

September 2, 2016

Called to order 6:03 pm

Attendance: Kathy DeWitt, Pete Shaw, Wendy Neal, Laura Million, Dave DeWitt

Guests: Patricia Hutchison, Bill Lange, Laura MacLeod

The August 2016 Board Meeting Minutes were read. A motion to approve the August 2016 SLAGA Board Meeting Minutes was made by Wendy Neal and seconded by Pete Shaw.  Board unanimously approved August 2016 the minutes.

The August 2016 Treasurer’s Report was read. A motion to approve the August 2016 Treasurer’s Reports was made by Laura Million and seconded by Pete Shaw. The Board approved the August 2016 Treasurer’s Report.

Old Business

• Brochures: Kathy DeWitt has been busy with Geocoinfest and will not have them ready until November.

• Newsletter/email-blast:

  Fall 2016 Newsletter: Laura Million needs the articles due by Sept 9.

  • Meet the Officers – Laura Million - Need Laura MacLeod’s bio & updates on returning officers bios.

  • Letter from President – Kathy DeWitt

  • Summer Picnic – Laura Million

  • Fall Picnic – Laura Million

  • Geocoinfest – Kathy DeWitt or Tony Colter

  • Halloween Bash is cancelled. The Grave Yard Hop will still be on Oct 22.

• Event recap – no recaps.

• Upcoming events:

  • CITO: September 17: Hosted by Bill Lange. Bill will provide water, and snacks. This CITO will be at Creve Coeur Park, Taco Bell shelter from 12:30pm - 2pm.

    Pete Shaw made a motion for SLAGA to buy the water, snacks, and ice, & a CITO coin to raffle away. Wendy Neal seconded the motion. The Board unanimously approved the motion.

• Fall Picnic:

  • Bill Lange will give away the Milestones awards as the new Vice President. Kathy DeWitt has ordered the coins.

  • Kathy DeWitt will order meat the Monday before the picnic. Pete Shaw will order buns based on the number of meats ordered.

  • Pete Shaw confirmed that John Elfrank will bring SLAGA trailer.

• GCF-October 15, 2016:

  • Time: 11am-4pm

  • The SLAGA Table will sell t-shirts, Christmas coins, other stuff. Laura Million is heading that table up.

• Halloween event: October 22, 2016 at Larson Park in Webster Groves 2016 – The Board decided to cancel this year due to the host cancelling and short notice to find a replacement.

• Graveyard Hop - October 22, 2016:

  • The Griff request $30 for pavilion and $100 for prizes. Pete Shaw made a motion that SLAGA provides $30 for the pavilion and $100 for the prizes. Laura Million seconded the motion. The Board unanimously approved the motion.

• Holiday Party - December 17, 2016: The holiday party will be held again this year at Kirkwood Station from 5pm - 8PM. A host is needed.

• New Year’s Day Hike: Robertsville State Park – Pete Shaw forwarded an email from the State Park with contact information. SLAGA will contact after November to confirm our reservation.

• Winter Potluck: The Winter Potluck will be held at the Pavilion at Jefferson Barracks again next year. Rainman will receive his 25,000 award. Kathy DeWitt will reach out to Mike Rogers to host.

• Classes:

  • Canoe & Kayak classes – Pete Shaw will write an article in Newsletter asking for interest.

• SLAGA coin:

  The SLAGA coin and Pathtags will not be ready for the Geocoinfest, but should be ready for the Winter Potluck.

• Road trips:

  • Jack Daniels GeoTrail will be rescheduled for next year.

• Boonslick Geotrail: The coins are paid for, but not yet delivered. Mark Coppersmith wants to give them to SLAGA to distribute. Cachers that complete the trail will mail the completed passport to SLAGA to receive their coin. Mark Coppersmith will create the passport and SLAGA will host the file on the SLAGA website.

• Elections – The Elections for the new SLAGA Board are over.

• WOW – will contact us next year to host a Geocaching booth.

                New meeting location: STL bread Company in Brentwood. The date and time TBA.
