Meeting date: November 2, 2011
Present: Tom Wolpert, Jim Greene, Mike Henthorn, Rich Sheffold, Jim Nelson, Nathan Rover, Mary Beth Gianoli, John Elfrank, Laurie Elfrank, Sarah Chisholm
The treasurer’s report was read. After some discussion, it was unanimously approved as submitted.
Old Business
· SLAGA website: All website software has been updated.
· Premium Member Award Pins: The ones we have used in the past are available again from CachingPlace.com. The price is right, the ordering requirements are minimal, and the pins are good quality. The Board decided to order the same pins we used previously.
· Joint Events with nearby caching groups: This idea was not received with much enthusiasm. We will table this idea and revisit in early spring.
· Class Dates for 2012:
o April 14 – Complete GPS
o May 5 – Geocaching 101
o September 22 – Complete GPS
o October 20 – Geocaching 101
All classes are conducted at Queeny Park in the Greensfelder Recreation Center.
· Question and Answer sessions for Spring 2012:
o February 15 at Cliff Cave Library, Room 2
o March 12 in St. Charles
o April 18 at Cliff Cave Library, Room 2
o May 14 in St. Charles
· Articles from General Membership: After some research, it was discovered that our current site software does not allow general members to submit articles. The options are for general members to send articles to the SLAGA officers for publishing/posting or to use the Blog feature of the website.
· Cache of the Month (aka Favorite Local Caches): There were only nine votes on the website but the idea still seems appealing. Tom will mention the idea in the newsletter and create a couple of ballots on the webpage.
· SLAGA Fizzy Challenge: Tabled until next month
· SLAGA County Challenge: 27 people have completed the challenge so SLAGA owes two people coins.
· Upcoming Events:
o Christmas Party – 12/10 at Incredible Pizza Company – hosted by MikeInMO
o New Year’s Event – 1/1/12 at Hawn – hosted by Strider
o Winter Potluck (1/28/12) sponsored by MRS RGS
New Business
· St. Louis County Parks: Justin asked SLAGA to send a letter of support. Tom agreed to draft the letter and send to Dooley and the appropriate County officials. The letter will also be shared through the newsletter and the SLAGA website.
· Caching Event at Shaw Arboretum: John Elfrank is working with Candyce to plan an event on March 31. More details will follow.
The next meeting is Wednesday, 12/07/11. If you want to attend, please contact one of the officers.
